Scouts - 'Explore the Unknown'
The theme of the Scout section under the Scouts Australia Youth Program is "Explore the Unknown" Scouts offers a huge range of age-appropriate self-development activities and outdoor challenges to help our Youth develop new skills, confidence and leadership abilities in small groups. Scouts also allows young people to make friends outside of the school environment. Some activities that our Scouts have done are in the photos above and also include
Every Youth Member has their own Achievement Pathway combining Outdoor Adventure Skills with Special Interest Areas and Leadership Skills to create their own unique journey through Scouting. If Youth Members choose to, they can set a goal to achieve the Peak Award - The Australian Scout Award. The Australian Scout Award includes participating, assisting with and leading activities, progressing through stages of Outdoor Adventure Skills (Bushwalking, Camping and Bushcraft), completing some special interest area projects, planning and leading an adventurous journey and completing a personal development/leadership course. It sounds like a lot, but with thoughtful programming, every youth member has the potential to complete their Peak Award. |
Meet the Adult Leaders of the Scout Section Both leaders of the section are passionate about helping Youth Members find their path in Scouting, develop leadership skills and resilience, and develop a strong a social conscience to participate in their communities outside Scouting. Belinda (Hawkeye) has been a leader in the Scout section since 2019 . Belinda is a Youth Safe Advocate, part of the regional SC&T Environment Team, a Deputy Camp Warden at Mt Keira Scout Camp and the current District Commissioner for Illawarra South District. Kevin (Rocky) has been in Scouting since he was a Sub and became an adult leader over 7 years ago. Kevin is a keen paddler and bushwalker and is a Deputy Camp Warden at Mt Keira Scout Camp . |
