Scouting encourages young people to become well rounded young adults who believe in their abilities and future potential, who are well equipped to face life's challenges, who are strong leaders as well as effective team players. Helping other people is an important aspect of the Scout Program and Scouts are encouraged to give back to the community by participating in local, national and international events and service projects. Scouts advance through the age based sections, they develop independence and resilience as they take on more responsibility for organising and running their own activities with adult guidance and mentoring:
Joey Scouts can start at 5yrs up to 8yrs
Cub Scouts 8 yrs to 11yrs
Scouts 11yrs - 14yrs
Venture Scouts 14 - 18yrs
Rovers 18yrs - 25yrs.
To find out more about each section, please click on each age bracket at the top of this site. Every Youth Member has their own Achievement Pathway combining Outdoor Adventure Skills with Special Interest Areas and Leadership Skills to create their own unique journey through Scouting. Programs are created by Youth Members with 4 key areas in mind: Community, Outdoors, Personal Growth and Creative, using the Plan>Do>Review framework, and the Scout Method which has eight (8) parts: Learning by Doing, Nature & Outdoors, Community Involvement, Personal Progression, Promise & Law, Symbolic Framework, Patrol System and Youth Leading, Adult Supporting.
Leadership in Scouting is promoted through
engaging and empowering youth,
actively involving Scouts in decision-making, and
providing opportunities for young people to learn and develop leadership skills and attitudes through experience.
History of our group Our Group began on 3rd Jan 2006 and was formed by the Koonawarra and the 3rd Dapto Groups joining.
We have a yellow and blue scarf representing the scarves of the previous groups but also the sand and the sea of the lake. The group is open for both boys and girls and we have many activities that the youth can experience. These include such things as camping, abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, flying, cooking, STEM activities, cycling and many more.
Our Founder
Robert Baden Powell founded the Scout Movement in 1907. It followed in Australia in 1908. He started the movement for young boys to come and learn the skills that they would not learn any where else. Some of these are navigation, survival in the bush, basic knotting, first aid and camping. Today in Australia, both boys and girls can enjoy Scouting from 5yrs to 25yrs, and on to Adult leadership.
